My team Man U done it again, but next year is going to be odd with fergie not there, good luck to all.
The week ahead for me is to finish the rochester job and think about the next one.

Have been to see two jobs today, one was a waste of time as they were not in, looks like the place was empty as well, the one in gillingham was ok, they had a white german shephard, she was very friendly, although the man of the house said to me she does not like men as a rule, what does that make me I wonder, haha!! anyway got to price the work up for them.
But tomorrow going to see a job in Holborough, I think I might have said in an earlier blog post, this one is the fourth job we have had in the area, in fact they are all neighbours , working our way down the block.
Hope you have had a good day.
See you all soon!!

Sunday, my best day of the week, as is probably to many also, very peaceful here as usual. Going to see the job in Rochester later this morning, in view to making a start soon.
Very sunny day at the moment, lets hope it will last. Had breakfast, and just lazying about before the off.
How is everyone spending there Sunday, whatever you are doing hope its good for you.
It must be 9 am as the church bell is starting to ring, that says to me Sunday has begun.
Sounds like I am in the countryside, well about 600 yards from it I guess, fields at the end of my road and then another half a mile I am in farmland. But go the other direction and I am in the town, so a nice spot.
So whatever you are doing this Sunday have a great day.
See you all soon!!

Have just created a page on facebook, with the ME Community, its an area community page with people reminding us all of the old times in Medway, some of the pictures I have seen on there are eyeopening.
There was one, it was of the grass area near the chatham town hall, the one thats on the edge of the new bus depot and opposite shopping center, it was known and still is I guess, as the Paddock there used to be a restaurant on there called The Paddock Cafe. No wonder, this picture was in the early years and it had Sheep grazing on the grass, looked really odd, but now I know why it is called the paddock. Think of it now can you imagine sheep grazing there today.

Saturday is always busy for me in many ways, shopping, quotes and paperwork. Planning the week ahead also.
The advertising we do is just enough, this site helps me a great deal, with over 90 per cent of the schemes coming from the site.
I am though going to alter it slightly, just the appearance of it, to keep it fresh. Hope you like!

An interesting week, done a deck in chattendean, and metal gates in rainham, versatile if nothing else.
Back to minster on monday to finish off, as said previous blog customer has been away, so we had to leave to the job unfinished.
We have now eight jobs to do, and this weekend going to schedule them in. Hope you all have had a good week.
One job we have to do is a patio, and the customer would like to use Black Indian Sandstone, this is such a good looking slab, it might sound a bit dark, excuse the pun, but once laid is very attractive and rich. Being a natural stone of course hardly looses its colour, and with all Indian sandstone cleaning is fairly easy just a stiff broom brushing and thats it.

All done at Chattendean, customer has said it looks great, as we got it done early today we went to Rainham to start the metal gates installation, we carry on tomorrow.
We have 9 jobs now to book in, so will have to sit down and schedule them in.

Having a good peaceful afternoon, recharging the batteries, ready for tea in a moment, getting hungry.
But a drink first I think. Have to get some quotes done by Tuesday. Have also got to ring a customer today as some point. This must be boring to read but it helps me to remember what I have got to do sorry.
Hope you are having a nice bank holiday weekend

A nice Sunday morning, very welcomed indeed, been to see two more schemes today so have to price and quote, but today especially this afternoon is a rest, at least for a few hours.
Being self employed has its advantages, but there are more disadvantages, if you can call them that, the main advantage is that you can choose your hours, no clocking in, no special home time and can have a break whenever you need. On the other hand the hours you have to put in doing paperwork, quotes and visiting customers to measure and discuss the requirements is and can be taxing. But I do like to visit the gardens and go through the scheme, and help out with design so not all bad.
I used to work in an office for many years prior to starting my company, do not think I could do that now, used to being outdoors.
So all in all apart from the paperwork, the life I have chosen is fine, never be a millionaire, not unless its a lottery win, but we would all like that, but a relatively stress free life is all I need.
Thank you all for your continued support and together we can build and create the garden you have always wanted.
See you all soon!!

Sunday was as expected, a calm day, weather was good as well. The time in the morning just flew past as I was doing some pricing and emailing, the afternoon was resting.
Going to the walderslade job tomorrow to finish the path and start the flower beds.
Cannot wait to go back to the minster job after the customer has come back off holiday, even if its just to take some pictures, cannot wait to show them to you.
Had some schemes to go and view soon so all is well in the camp.

The past week went rather well, the juniper path is taking a little longer but looks great and the customer is pleased which is the main thing. The timber poles were delivered to make the raised beds, all 100 of them, have to cut them to size, should get 3 from each, the larger bed will take around 180 of them, all standing like soldiers.
The weather was pretty good until Friday when it rained most of the day, but with the help of the trusty gazebos we were able to carry on.
Another couple of quotes to do this weekend, then I can put my feet up.
Went to see a scheme in Gillingham today, and the customer was saying that a corner of the lower part of the garden got almost waterlogged when it rained heavily, about 3 inches of water, and she was scared that it might breach the air vents.
After inspection I could not see why it got like it as the soil around the area should take care of the drainage. Now the garden sloped upwards away from the house line, and through a small gap in the fence I could see that the neighbor had a patio to about half way up the garden and across the width, and there was no step up so, in other words that when it rained all the water from the patio was travelling towards their house and seeping under the fence and into the garden I was in. Logical I thought, so apart from asking the neighbor to correct it, thats to say lift the slabs and slope it away from the house lines, a soakway in the corner might be a good idea, an expense my customer could do without.
Patios and decking must drain off away from the house, if this cannot be done then Channel drains must be installed.
Can't help thinking that in years to come their neighbor might have damp problems, should have had a professional to do it.
See you all soon!!

Today went rather well, got the path dug out and started to lay the concrete. This is a bespoke garden, leading from the customers drawings and ideas, its going to be a good one. We are going to lay a path using Juniper colour scheme block paving, with a charcoal paver edge. Looking forward to seeing this one done.

Thats another week over, finished the main work at Minster, we have agreed with the customer to go back in about two weeks to carry on with the mop stick rails and facing, they have a family situation to deal with and then a short holiday, so watch out for the pictures to come, but they are very pleased with it.
Starting the Walderslade bespoke scheme on Monday, this is a blank garden, just soil, so nothing to prepare as such. Its a block paving pathway, some raised beds using circular posts cemented into the ground, a circle shape lawn, so all looks good.
This week has flown buy, weather again played its part, mostly dry, so was able to get on well.
The deck in minster has created a fantastic view, we used metal railings as the hand railing in the front so not to block the view, other areas we did the timber spindles and rails. Works really well.
This type of railing, the metal one, is a little more but if you want a different look to your deck then give this some thought, ask for it when you contact us, looks great.
Inquires are coming in now and starting to pick up, the website is still attracting many visitors and blog comments. Whatever you are doing today, have a great time.

What a day, started off wet and windy ended up sunny and windy, wish this weather would make up its mind. Got most of the decking done today, really please about that, its starting to take shape and is becoming more stable as we put more braces in.
We have created an "A" frame between three posts along the back which takes out a fair amount of movement, this type of frame is extremely strong.
We have got the steps to do tomorrow, the we have the handrails and railings to complete.

At last started the Minster Decking, this is a high one, and using 150 x 50mm timber this time, got most of the surround bearers sorted, concreted the back section into the ground and braced up one side. Should get the whole structure done tomorrow and start to lay the deck boards.
The main idea is to create a view across the "bird sanctuary" and its taking shape. Will take some pictures.

Apart from trying to get my printer working, which is almost new I hasten to add, and my new laptop windows 8, it has been a good day, getting everything I need for tomorrows job, its the minster one, it was my father in laws birthday today 78 years, still driving ok, still thinks he is a boy racer though he has slowed down in the past few months.
All quiet now in the household lovely, waiting for my daughter Hayley and granddaughter Amber to call in to pick up some astro turf for her Guinea pigs, only to cover at night I think, also a granite slab for the rabbit to keep her cool.
Hope everyone is now getting out into the garden to see what needs doing, and getting on the phone as I write, hope so, good to hear from you.
I am now getting restless so I thought I would write a little, bored mainly, cannot sit still, I like to be busy, especially on the laptop, nothing too taxing. Been a good weekend hope yours has too.

What a lovely day, thought this morning though it was not going to happen. Been trying to set up my printer with the new laptop, windows 8, no joy, need the USB lead I think but cannot find it, every other lead yes, but not that one. Will have to buy one tomorrow, so if any one is waiting for a paper quote bear with me, oh emailing them is so much easier, and cheaper.
It will not pick up the printer, its logged into the Hub, both the printer and the laptop, but for some reason it will not print, has got 4 documents pending.
I will sort it eventually.

We all need a rest sometimes, but this week for me has dragged a bit. Cannot wait to start the scheme in Minster been a long time coming.
Visited a scheme today in lordswood, this one is for a disabled child, a deck which needs wheelchair access, so all good.
Got some quotes to do also.
Facebook and twitter has been keeping me busy this week, updating the text and profiles, both personal and business. Going to also update the website, give that a new look as well, so a busy weekend in store.

Having a twitter account as well as Facebook, enables me to spread the word about this blog and my website. Its a way of me keeping in touch with friends and friends of friends. Of course its not the only way that I advertise, but its certainly the cheapest, adverts are a little like insurance, you pay for it but not sure if you need the whole set up or not.
I advertise in Thomson local and I use there web solutions as well, so small local diarys, this is to help out local people such as the local community, and thats about it, and of course my website is organically found through the search engines. This blog thats posted on Facebook and Twitter really helps.
I do get work from recommendations which is good, but these days I believe you have to advertise.
Word of mouth is very good but to rely on that alone these times would not be enough.
So look out for my adverts and hope to hear from you.

Have you ever thought about your life in general, without getting too heavy, I have thought long and hard these past months, mainly about the future and what it might hold.
We all wish we had a crystal ball to see the times ahead, and some may have visited a medium to gain a point on the future. But we simply do not know what lies ahead. Those of us doing the lottery dream of winning it someday and some of us have, not me I hasten to add. But that brings joy and heartache do you think.
But most of all health is the key, its a item that money can not buy, yes we can pay for treatment, but health no.
So me looking ahead for retiring in say 6 years, for I have been planning in some way, which as we know soon comes around, am I going to be ok, hope so and I think so, oh dear this is getting heavy now. But just wanted to share with you all what I am feeling at this point in time. Its never too early to plan for this time believe me.
I wish you all health and luck for the future. See you all soon!!

The type of paving we do is from local suppliers, we can of course get any type online, but sometimes you have to buy in packs which means you will surely have some left over and cannot use, so this way you are spending money for no gain.
Indian sandstone is a prime example of this practice, but we can get them locally at an online price, and you do not have to buy packs, so no waste.
All the sandstone is calibrated as well so you get a neat look. Some of the types that are not calibrated are very rough and uneven.
As said in previous blogs its all to do with the foundations, we make sure that this is firm, strong and thick enough to build and lay the paving onto, and will last for many years to come.
Next time you are in need of a Patio then give us a call.

We are getting many inquiries now for Patios and Decking, these are the two main products we specialize in.
These are just two areas we have created, the paving is solid granite slabs, and the deck is a high one with steps leading down the garden. Hope to hear from you.

This freaky weather we are all having at the moment, is playing with the schedules a little, but we soldier on regardless. Got the wall knocked down today, and its now ready for the footings tomorrow. Then it will the weekend to set and start laying the bricks.
The snow today was blowing so much that it was almost horizontal, as said freaky weather. I think my calender must be wrong its saying its April, but today was more like February.
Keep Calm and Carry on!!

Finished the Rochester scheme today, its the one with the long walk getting the materials in, customer is pleased with the work.
Starting in Gillingham tomorrow, its a front brick wall complete with copings and pier caps, using red stock bricks.
At least this one there is no walking the materials in, can be dropped off within inches of the work, from one extreme to another.
Weather was cold again and a little snow started to fall. Had three inquiries today as well, so a good day.
Hope you all have had a good day and look forward to hearing from you.

The long weekend is very welcomed, been drained a bit lately, probably this weather getting me down as it is with us all I guess. Still will not last forever so look forward to a great summer. We are busy, work is coming in so all is good, schemes in west Malling, Rochester, Gillingham and walderslade to do.
Have done the quote for the west malling scheme, just waiting for the reply. Took some easter eggs down to Hayleys earlier but, my fault, they were out.
Had a little snow here earlier but did not come to anything thank goodness. Hope we are having a great weekend in whatever you are doing.

Went into work today, just the morning to get the job in Gillingham finished, we did the deck yesterday, today was all about the finale touches, a step was made from paving and bricks, and some slate chippings laid around the edges of the deck and the step area. All done!!

Got the concreting done today, covered it so that an airflow is available, and waiting for it to set. The finished surface was already setting when we left, we are to leave it alone now for a few days, then we will go back to do the second area.
Tomorrow we are building a deck in gillingham, this is a small area low level deck. Got the materials being delivered locally.
With the Easter Holidays coming along its a long weekend for some of us. Perhaps the weather afterwards might get warmer, hope so, winter has been here for too long now.

All went well today, both areas are now ready for concreting tomorrow, we are doing the top section first, then letting that set for a few days, then do the bottom area. Usually it does not take that long to set, but its so cold at the moment, it will not set that quick.
So we will do a small decking job in between.

Its that time of year again when your deck might need cleaning, so I thought I might repost my homemade deck cleaner again for those who have not read it before..........
A Deck is a great feature in the garden, from time to time it needs a bit of TLC, about once every two to three years it needs a good clean to take off all the old stain, dust and grime, like all things in the garden get. Before you go rushing to the local DIY store to buy the deck cleaner give this a try. Pour one gallon of clean water into a clean bucket, add one eighth of a gallon of household bleach, the cheap one is fine, then add one quarter of a cup full of washing up liquid again the cheap one is fine, and mix together. The bleach will clean the boards and the washing up liqiud will tackle the dirt. This is the hard bit, use a scrubbing brush or a hard broom, the brush is better, and firmly scrub the boards to remove the dirt. Its only once every two to three years so no hardship. Wash off with clean water every fourth board to stop it drying out. If you do allow the boards to dry before the washing off then you might have to scrub them lightly again as the dirt will solidify on top. This does work and is a lot cheaper than the DIY store cleaner, which in my view does not work as good as the can says it should. Happy cleaning, then allow to dry and coat again with you favorite stain colour.

I have been in the office and visiting West Malling today, a garden scheme with Indian Sandstone in mind, a paving area of around 40 sq m so all is good. The general pattern is four sizes which comes in pack form, I get the stone locally and they split the packs which makes life easier, no more having to buy a whole pack just for a few slabs. Fossil Mint, Raj Green are the most popular tints, so it may well be one of those.
Some digging out to create the pattern, and channel drainage to install next to the house line.
It was cold today, that wind in this area was very keen!! hoping the warmer weather starts to arrive soon, and the jet stream flows upwards instead of downwards.
Going back to rochester tomorrow to start the concreting, Neil is back off holidays so all is good. Also a small amount of paving to be done as well.

Good evening if you are reading this, with the spring which will be here soon despite the weather at the moment, its about the time to see what you would like done in the garden. Is the fence sound and upright, are there any broken posts, or perhaps its about time to have a whole new fence.
Have you been thinking about a new patio, or perhaps some decking.
Then we can surely help you decide, with our knowledge and skills in the both patios and decking, we will guide you through whatever problems you have, and give you the structure you need for all the family.
Our way is a firm base on which your paving will stand, and the framework in which the decking is fixed to will last for many years to come. Visit the rest of the site and see for yourself.
Hope to hear from you. See you all soon!!

Today was good, got the pointing done of all the path, the rain kept away luckily, so thats all done, now just the concreting to do. Got some of the ballast through, not all of the 3.5 tonnes as space in the top half of the area was filling up, so have more to get through.
Not sure what to do on Monday. The plot is looking good, need to quote for an extra section of the path, this is the lower part, its just 10 slabs so not going to be too much. If I get the go ahead will lay these on Monday.
Neil is back off holiday on Tuesday so will be able to get the concrete areas prepared. Have invoiced for the path so hope to get that over the weekend.

Got the paving done today, and about 75 per cent of the pointing finished as it was a dry day, I hope tomorrow will be dry so I can finish the work.
Also tomorrow if I get time I can start bringing in the ballast from out side.
Has been a good week, although most of my time has been getting materials into the garden.

Ran out of sharp sand today, getting a local supplier who has a truck small enough to get round a tight corner to deliver it to the garden, did not fancy another 6 mile walk, see "Eventful or what" blog, so at least until Wednesday when a dumper and 3 tonnes of ballast is turning up. At least I can get on with laying some more slabs.
Only managed to do a small amount today, as the local chap could not do the delivery until tomorrow so had an early day.
The weather is ok at the moment so all is good, I think!!
Had an inquiry today from Walderslade area, all the garden needs sorting, as its a blank canvas, so will see it on Thursday.
This is my 627th post, not a monumental number but a fair amount. I bet your glad you are reading this now!! Regards.

What a horrible morning, the rest of the day has not good either, wet and windy, hope the covers hold on the path in Rochester.
Been at home mostly today, except for the weekly shop which was done in record time. Hope you had a great day wherever you are.
Last week was a total waste of time and effort, the weather did not play its part one bit, and is still going to put a damper, excuse the pun, on things next week.
Had a look at some bricks for a job in Gillingham coming along soon.
On a personal note I have put three books on Ebay, which I dont use anymore, so have a look for them, there are two from Alan Titchmarsh, and one from the RHS. Bidding will start soon.

Well the day started like this, went to start the van, low battery, had to use the booster to start which was no problem, got to the job in rochester, its the one with the little walk we did last week which was 6 miles, yeah that one, anyway, walked to the garden and got the wheelbarrow to take the cement bag and a few other items needed, trowel and rubber mallet that sort of thing, went back for the cement mixer, now pushing this to the garden those 385 yds, was to say the least eventful, for those who know the wheels on a cement mixer are solid and have no "give" in them one bit so you feel every bump every stone, got this to the garden, went back for the stand, another 385 yds, thought of taking it at the same time as the mixer itself, good job I didn't it would have fallen off pretty soon, again walked this down to the garden. So there I was got everything I needed, the next thing I had to do was to get the mixer down off the top deck, which is one we built last year so I knew it was strong, it is however 3ft off the ground, there are step leading down, so you can see I was on my own and I am thinking how do I get the mixer down the garden, I had visions of the bloody thing falling off the edge with a pair of feet hanging out the drum, I decided to have a coffee and have a think, after deliberating I decided to go for the steps, five in all, I knew they were strong but its the angle a steepness of them.all by the way did I mention it was frosty and slippery, started to get the wheels near the edge, one step, two step three, oh hang on a minute, three step, oh made it.
Got the stand and built the mixer and was ready for mixing, the customer had left a extension lead out for me as they were both at work, the garden I guess is around 80ft long so had to join my lead onto it to reach the mixer, all sorted, by this time is was about 9.30. All was good in the world. Pushed the on switch on the mixer not a bean, checked the leads were fine, still no power, went to the small window through where the lead was out only to see the plug on the inside sill looking at me, they had forgot to plug it in.
After all this I had thoughts of me mixing up in a wheelbarrow by hand, which takes a time, great start, another coffee I thought, well what else could I do, then about 10.00 I heard someone in the house, shouted out and it was the mum of the customers, I said would you plug the lead in for me, said thank god you came here, she replied that she had to take their dog to the vets. All plugged in and sorted ready to go at last.
All in all an eventful morning, then I get a call about 3pm from home, Joanne my significant other said her dad had got a puncture and was having trouble changing the wheel got there , hes 77, so then I had to go to and help, got to lordswood he had no wheel brace, got mine and took the wheel to be fixed. Then finally got home. Tomorrow is another day!! Hopefully not like this one.
See you all soon!!
