Well not long to go now before 2011 is upon us. New years resolutions to be made. Mine is to be more successful in whatever I do, and to help others in need. What is yours, to give up smoking perhaps or to lose weight, two things I dont have a problem with, never smoked and on the slim side, but for those who need a goal to reach then I wish you every success. Thank you for past and future clients, happy new year to you all!!!

Today received an enquiry for a garden scheme in Sittingbourne a new build house. Will come up with designs for the client. They have 2 dogs on what I believe to be soil, and fed up taking the soil inside the house. Soil in that part of the world is I think heavy clay. Which is ok, but its too wet in the winter and bone dry cracking in the summer.

Working on the loyalty cards for 2011, will be sending them out to existing customers very soon. The scheme will be that you will get up to 20% off your next planned job, must use it within 12 months of the date given. The date will on the card, only existing customers can use it. You can pass it onto a friend if you wish, but they must use it within 6 months of the date on the card. Only only one card per job is allowed. No other landscaping company offers this as far as I know. It is not a gimmick and is a genuine offer. It is our way of saying thank you. Regards Peter

Christmas is nearly upon us, another year is soon to finish, where does the time go. We have had a good year, many gardens are far better I hope than they were before we did our magic on them. This time of year many of us look towards families for the good times pass and to come. Looking back on those who are not with us and miss greatly. And for those who are away fighting in foreign lands. Those of us who have to work on the big day creates another challenge. Friends who we may have forgotten about. We wish them all a very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. See You in 2011!!

The snow has nearly gone here in Medway. Everyone is looking forward to Christmas. As I look out the window, cars are getting around much better. Very grey day though, in the distance I can see the coney banks, white a few days ago, can see little hints of green now. Been trying to catch up on paperwork, but for a short while the internet from BT was down. Hate these dark nights, still the shortest day has passed and so now we are looking to gain an extra 2 to 3 mins of light per night, wow wee!! Once everyone has got rid of their Christmas trees and lights, it might be time to think about the garden ready for the spring, which will soon be here. I am giving loyalty cards to recent customers as a thank you for their support. These will on show soon in the new year, best to wait until then so the post can recover from the rush. Happy new Year everyone and for those who qualify I will be sending the loyalty card to you soon.

To get a decent garden landscaper needs some careful thinking. We all know about cowboy builders and the like, they are generally a bloke with a van, no cards, no invoices, no paperwork, no advertising, yet some of us fall foul of these people. Nothing to be ashamed about in doing so, they are fairly convincing. Be aware that the genuine landscapers have at least some cards to give, have the correct paperwork, invoices/Quotes, at least one advert. But we do have a van!!

The garden at the moment might not be top of the list at the moment, but after the holiday festivities its a great time to plan ahead. When all is quite after the rush of Christmas its a time to reflect and take stock for the new year. And that includes plans you have for the garden. Stocks of materials are high in most merchants, in the case of my supplier its certainly is. They hold whats called a winter stock for the manufacturers so they have the levels to cope. When you in mind what you would like to do, give us a call to discuss, free quotations and great prices, and no VAT to pay.

Hello we have just nearly finished the lordswood job. Been a nice one, the paving was Indian Sandstone in four sizes. Grey tint. Looks great when wet. You can of course seal the stone to give it that wet look the whole time. Natural stone will always attract a little moss and other growth. Once sealed this will keep this down to a minimum. But the weathered look is a natural occurrence anyway and can make the paving more authentic. Either way in the end its a personal choice of which effect to go for.

Had two recent enquirers for Decking, each completely different, and in different parts of kent, at each end so to speak. Both having handrails though. To do them both would be a great opportunity towards new ideas for the future. Been constructing decking for many years now and one of them has a wheelchair ramp included. Which not only makes it different but its a joy to do.

A brand new Driveway will enhance your property and give it that kerb appeal when it comes to selling your house. Plus with the lack of parking space these days its almost a must to have off road parking in some way. The latest regulations are that if the area you are going to have paved is permeable, that is to say it lets the water drain through then you do not need planning. If it is not then you might need planning permission, or if you can drain the water off towards say some grass of other drainage then you will be fine. So if you have the space why not give us a call, its cheaper then you might think.

Great job to quote for at Herne Bay, right near the sea, very bracing. A Decking is wanted and a wheelchair ramp from the top, the ramp will be 8m long x 1.5m wide. Lovely!!

Laid some paving today, it started to get a little warmer thankfully. Plenty of frostproofer and not too much water. Tomorrow is going to be even warmer, taking a nice trip to Herne Bay to see a job, bracing!!

Well what a day, done most of the concreting, use Frostproofer to allow to set in the cold weather, just a little more tomorrow. Use 1 Tonne of Ballast to complete it. Whew!! still on the plus side it kept me warm.

To be a garden Landscaper in todays market place, I feel takes three things, Skill, Helpful Approach, and a certain amount of luck. The later is by I mean, when you go to see a client for the first time they instantly think, now do I need this chap to do my work. I have been told many times over the past 15 years that I got the job not only on price but they felt happy with me as a person, now its not me to blow my own trumpet, but they have really said that. Of course the skill only comes out when you start the work, this is one thing they cannot see, yes you can flood them with pictures, but its the finished product thats important. I am thankful that I am not just a man with a truck. The luck I have had over the years is sometimes being in the right place. May it continue for us all!!

The snow is getting silly now, its about 300mm deep here on my Deck. And its still coming down. Mind you we have not had this type of snow fall for a very long time so I suppose we are due for an amount. Hopefully going to stop soon and the rain on Saturday and Sunday might wask it away. Hope so!!! Still keep us in Mind for any work after. We are still booking for the winter months!!

Oh Dear another day of snow, so I am on here writing. Looking out of the window as I do it seems ok traffic is moving, very slow, a winter wonderland. When you can get out and check the fences in your garden, its the cold weather and frosts that can make the posts become loose in the ground, especially if they have been put in with Metposts, the metal spikes. These spikes are ok for a quick fix but useless unless cemented into the ground. They become loose over time and are extremely difficult to get out as they twist in the ground when hammered in. We never use them, mjuch better to cement the posts directly into the hole, it gives a firm and stable foundation.
