The hired digger went back today done all the work we can with it. Great time saver. Getting the first phase done by friday I would say, then onto to phase two the fence all 31.5m of it better get digging those post holes. See you all soon!! |

Got a lot done today, the hired digger played its part well, took out a huge conifer tree stump with some degree of ease, took out about eight altogether, lifted all the side hedge out as well, and various lumps of concrete. Well worth the money. As yet not had to put any fuel in but will probably have to tomorrow. Skip is nearly full. Just got a small area to lift and then thats it. See you all soon!!! |

Sunday morning, have done one quote need to type up the second soon, and the decking and third quote to do, will do it this afternoon. Just had a visit from my Daughter Hayley and granddaughter Amber, Amber was full of beans, so cute though. Going to have dinner now so see you all soon!! |

Moring all, still waiting upon the bexley job, starting a new scheme on Monday in strood as said in previous blogs, going to reaserch some items on the web, need to get the cost of materialos down as far as possible to give my customers the very best for less. It maybe time to alter the way I quote as well, I do some feed back to acheive this of course, but in the meantime I will research some other means. Getting an account open with another supplier, hopefully, should be fine just waiting to hear from them. To all who read this I would be grateful to feedback as regards to material cost. Another saturday afternoon doing quotes, still got to be done. Some of them are great schemes, the decking ones especially. Waiting on a work scheme in Bexley, the go ahead is taking its time I must admit, I will have to see how things go soon cant afford to have any gaps in the time scale what with christmas coming up. Well what a week, had to leave the job we are on, because the customer has to prepare for the next phase, so we have agreed to go away for twoweeks while its being done. Starting a new scheme on Monday in Strood, hopefully a digger to clear a section oif the garden, I say hopefully because I had a phone call earlier today to say that we might get the digger until Tuesday. Still we can make a start. See you all soon!! |

Had a good day today, apart from feeling rather unwell with cold that is, or as ladys like to call it "man flu", I did feel rough though, but as my dad used to say "work it off", and to a certain degree I suppose I have. But yes back to the day I have had, got the handrails and a third of the lower deck done, just the steps to do and then its a two week break, that is because the customer has to prepare a certain part of the garden before we can carry on, so we have another job to go to and then we will be back, not my usual way of doing things, I like to finish a job then move on, but in this case we have no choice. Must get the digger hired sorted!! See you all soon!! |

Decking is still very popular, it is my favourite product, next to patios, but there is so much you can do with timber that you cant do with paving. For instance, you can choose what colour you really want, as opposed to having what is made, decking is a lot warmer and softer than concrete or natural stone. A lot more versatile when it comes to design, shapes and slopes. Decking is made for slopes, it makes a sloping garden into a family plot you can all enjoy safely. Decking lights are so fantastic now, so many different designs and colours. You can even get a set of them which includes a programmer to switch on and off to the beat of music, comes complete with a white suit for the man to wear, HaHA. No really it is really cool to watch the lights flicker even when you talk. They are of course all low wattage and very safe. See you all soon!! |

Well thats another weekend nearly over, got to finish the top deck tomorrow, should do. Getting ready to view the past 12 months trading, this week, I would like to trade up next year, that is to say try to acheive the impossible. Haha!! Now how can i do that, any ideas. I expect material prices will go up a little next year, probably in January or maybe March time, the increase this year was about 4 per cent, so I would say about the same, our labour rates have not increased however for 2 years, looking ahead I will try and keep it the same personally. If any increases have to be forced then I would say about 4 to 5 per cent not much when you think that some other companies are on. We give a great service that in my mind, and also in a number of my old customers mind as well, a service that is second to none. And all for an affordable price. See you all soon!! |

Sunday morning nothing like it, just prepared a quote and sent it via email to the customer, this one is for a driveway in block paving. We use a cement screed of sharp sand, this gives the best support for any vehicle. The job, hopefully, is in Walderslade, it requires a drive, steps, retaining brickwall, a railway sleeper retaining wall as well. So not just the drive to be done. A skip on the road and away we go. Getting ready for Jim my father in law to come over for his dinner and thats about it. See you all soon!! |

Saturday afternoon is for me sometimes quite, like today for instance, doing some quotes which I like. Two enquiries need a price from me for a Driveway each and some decking. Done the graphics for my poster board, very colourful should stand out. Hope so, going to cost enough, I did have some magnetic signs for my vehicle but on the way to the job in Walderslade I lost two of them, they must have flew off into the road, I am of course waiting for a phone call from the person that may pick them up, have only one now and it looks a bit silly on its own. Well thats another week done, got about a third of the decking boards done today, and the weed membrane as well. All of them tightly into place with screws. To be continued on Monday. Looking good so far, then got the lower deck to build. The customer is to paint cuprinol "stay new" onto the boards after we have left. This odes exactly that it keeps the timber looking like new, it puts a wax onto it, so the water simply runs off, it also brings the natural colour of the grain. see you all soon!!! |

Laying the deck boards today using turbo gold screws, the frame should be "set" got to put the weed membrane under it and off we go. The wall should be "set" as well. See you all soon!! |

Got all the supports for the deck cut and cemented in, built the wall to the full height and now going to lay the deck boards tomorrow. Then on Monday building the lower section of the decking. See you all soon!! |

Another little trick, next time your lawn is in need of a fix give it a "top dressing" of some compost or sharp sand brushed into the lawn and left to rest, this not only feeds the lawn but help with drainage. Also if you have had astro turf laid either by us or you may have laid it yourself, it might be worth checking the levels of the kiln dried sand that we brushed into the pile, after a while this needs to be topped up, rain and wind can sometimes wash or blow the sand level down. Just empty the bag onto the pile and using a broom with soft bristles brush it in. Or you can give us a call and for a small charge we can do it for you. See you all soon!! |

Another good day got most of the upper frame done for the deck, we use screws not nails as this makes the frame a lot stronger, just got to cement the legs into place. Building a block wall tomorrow, so the lower deck will have to wait until thats finished, the customer is pleased with it so far. See you all soon!! |

We have had one of the best and worse days, the worse part is that the ground we are working on is Clay and Flint, very hard going when digging, especially when the ground is wet, you tend to take more off with your footwear then on the spade. But the best part was I got two orders and two enquiries. Lovely!! One job is in Bexley and the other in Strood. The enquiries are both in Chatham. See you all soon!! |

Not a great day today weather wise, materials turned up ok, so all steam ahead tomorrow, railway sleeper wall and frame hopefully. The concrete step was about 10 inches think if not more in places, had to lower it to get the deck height, as you can imagine it took a wee while. See you all soon!! |

This week coming is going to be great, Decking, yeah I know what again, but I never get tired of building them. Because each one is different, this one is two tiers with a full step, and handrails at the end. The weather looks ok as well, been pretty good for November, well compared to last year when we had all the snow. Bought some fixings to go over the shoes to stop me sliding in the ice and snow, I really hope they stay in the packet. If you are thinking of a garden project give me a call. See you all soon!! |

The winter months are nearly here, although you would not think so at the moment with this warm weather we are having. Having finished the small patio on Friday we are starting a new scheme in walderslade chatham on Monday 14th Nov, this is a large timber deck in two tiers, with handrails at the end of the second tier, railway sleeper retaining wall, a 150mm block wall, small amount of concreting, and some trellis work. should take about two weeks to complete. We are waiting to hear from two other people when we can start their garden, so in all not a bad end to what has been an interesting year. Acheived a lot this year, done some great work and met some lovely people, one in particular as monetuioned in an earlier blog, Kirsty. Looking forward to hearing from you all soon, and as said in an earlier blog, i believe 2012 is going to be a great year. Keep landscaping!! see you all soon!! |

Today was a good day laid all the paving, all 78 of them, just the pointing tomorrow to do and clear the site, customer is very pleased, has ask for me to quote for a new lawn to be laid. See you all soon!! |

Done the decking in Rochester on to the next job. A small patio in Gillingham, going to use type 1 as the base on this as its getting the materials in the back might take a while. Its all small slabs 30 x 30cm and two colours, with a curved edge, blocks on this edge will hide the cuts needed. See you all soon!! |

Bit of a miss mash day today, weather was damp, steps took a little longer than we thought, still looking good, must remember the electric planner tomorrow, just to shape the ends the steps. Looking great this year, created a better way of working and getting materials which creates better gardens for everyone, its not that we got it wrong in the past, but now its a simpler way. Decking and Patios are my main income, great suppliers are the key and thats exactly what i have got. A good work force as well, me included, makes some of the others think twice I reckon. Although price is a great decider, but to bear in mind when you are spending money on your garden the last thing you want is for it to go wrong. "Jack the lad with a lorry" will always be there, the people doing "private work" or "cash prices" but will they be there if it goes wrong? Possibly not!! Our prices are very good for what you get, a good job, great full time workman that do not go off site to other work booked in at the same time or doing the work at the weekends only and locally sourced materials. hello its Sunday again, my father in law, was talking today about a firm that a friend of his neighbours was using to landscape her garden. Why they did not come to us words fail me, anyhow, they were supposed to do the work in about a week, and I know sometimes work can carry over, but this was months ago, the work was for some paving and other bits and pieces, but they were also engaged to lay some astro turf. Well after some attampts to lay the grass, in fact they were going to stick it down which is fine, if you use the correct glue, anyway to cut a long story short they then admitted that they had not done this before and was not sure how to do it, so the customer asked them to leave, the customer is now stuck with astro turf rolled up, a base she can't use, and the garden not finished. Why this firm took the job on beats me, oh and the reason they were taking such a long time to get the work done, they used to turn up at midday and then leave around 4 or sooner. The work was around £3000 the customer has only paid them £1000 so far, and I believe she is not going to pay them anymore. Out of business I think very soon, who ever they are.
