An interesting week, done a deck in chattendean, and metal gates in rainham, versatile if nothing else.
Back to minster on monday to finish off, as said previous blog customer has been away, so we had to leave to the job unfinished.
We have now eight jobs to do, and this weekend going to schedule them in. Hope you all have had a good week.
One job we have to do is a patio, and the customer would like to use Black Indian Sandstone, this is such a good looking slab, it might sound a bit dark, excuse the pun, but once laid is very attractive and rich. Being a natural stone of course hardly looses its colour, and with all Indian sandstone cleaning is fairly easy just a stiff broom brushing and thats it.
See you all soon!!

All done at Chattendean, customer has said it looks great, as we got it done early today we went to Rainham to start the metal gates installation, we carry on tomorrow.
We have 9 jobs now to book in, so will have to sit down and schedule them in.
See you all soon!!

Today went rather well, got the path dug out and started to lay the concrete. This is a bespoke garden, leading from the customers drawings and ideas, its going to be a good one. We are going to lay a path using Juniper colour scheme block paving, with a charcoal paver edge. Looking forward to seeing this one done.
See you all soon!!

What a day, started off wet and windy ended up sunny and windy, wish this weather would make up its mind. Got most of the decking done today, really please about that, its starting to take shape and is becoming more stable as we put more braces in.
We have created an "A" frame between three posts along the back which takes out a fair amount of movement, this type of frame is extremely strong.
We have got the steps to do tomorrow, the we have the handrails and railings to complete.
See you all soon!!

At last started the Minster Decking, this is a high one, and using 150 x 50mm timber this time, got most of the surround bearers sorted, concreted the back section into the ground and braced up one side. Should get the whole structure done tomorrow and start to lay the deck boards.
The main idea is to create a view across the "bird sanctuary" and its taking shape. Will take some pictures.
See you all soon!!

This freaky weather we are all having at the moment, is playing with the schedules a little, but we soldier on regardless. Got the wall knocked down today, and its now ready for the footings tomorrow. Then it will the weekend to set and start laying the bricks.
The snow today was blowing so much that it was almost horizontal, as said freaky weather. I think my calender must be wrong its saying its April, but today was more like February.
Keep Calm and Carry on!!

Finished the Rochester scheme today, its the one with the long walk getting the materials in, customer is pleased with the work.
Starting in Gillingham tomorrow, its a front brick wall complete with copings and pier caps, using red stock bricks.
At least this one there is no walking the materials in, can be dropped off within inches of the work, from one extreme to another.
Weather was cold again and a little snow started to fall. Had three inquiries today as well, so a good day.
Hope you all have had a good day and look forward to hearing from you.
See you all soon!!

Went into work today, just the morning to get the job in Gillingham finished, we did the deck yesterday, today was all about the finale touches, a step was made from paving and bricks, and some slate chippings laid around the edges of the deck and the step area. All done!!
Hope you all have a good Easter weekend and tuck into those eggs.
See you all soon!!

Got the Decking done in one day, was only a small one though, 4.2m x 3.2m low level. Looks good makes the whole garden look much bigger.
Just a small step to do tomorrow then easter holidays.
See you all soon!!

Got the concreting done today, covered it so that an airflow is available, and waiting for it to set. The finished surface was already setting when we left, we are to leave it alone now for a few days, then we will go back to do the second area.
Tomorrow we are building a deck in gillingham, this is a small area low level deck. Got the materials being delivered locally.
With the Easter Holidays coming along its a long weekend for some of us. Perhaps the weather afterwards might get warmer, hope so, winter has been here for too long now.
See you all soon!!

All went well today, both areas are now ready for concreting tomorrow, we are doing the top section first, then letting that set for a few days, then do the bottom area. Usually it does not take that long to set, but its so cold at the moment, it will not set that quick.
So we will do a small decking job in between.
See you all soon!!

Today was good, got the pointing done of all the path, the rain kept away luckily, so thats all done, now just the concreting to do. Got some of the ballast through, not all of the 3.5 tonnes as space in the top half of the area was filling up, so have more to get through.
Not sure what to do on Monday. The plot is looking good, need to quote for an extra section of the path, this is the lower part, its just 10 slabs so not going to be too much. If I get the go ahead will lay these on Monday.
Neil is back off holiday on Tuesday so will be able to get the concrete areas prepared. Have invoiced for the path so hope to get that over the weekend.
See you all soon!!

peter: Posted on 21 March 2013 18:42
Got the paving done today, and about 75 per cent of the pointing finished as it was a dry day, I hope tomorrow will be dry so I can finish the work.
Also tomorrow if I get time I can start bringing in the ballast from out side.
Has been a good week, although most of my time has been getting materials into the garden.
See you all soon!!

Ran out of sharp sand today, getting a local supplier who has a truck small enough to get round a tight corner to deliver it to the garden, did not fancy another 6 mile walk, see "Eventful or what" blog, so at least until Wednesday when a dumper and 3 tonnes of ballast is turning up. At least I can get on with laying some more slabs.
Only managed to do a small amount today, as the local chap could not do the delivery until tomorrow so had an early day.
The weather is ok at the moment so all is good, I think!!
Had an inquiry today from Walderslade area, all the garden needs sorting, as its a blank canvas, so will see it on Thursday.
This is my 627th post, not a monumental number but a fair amount. I bet your glad you are reading this now!! Regards.
See you all soon!!

Well the day started like this, went to start the van, low battery, had to use the booster to start which was no problem, got to the job in rochester, its the one with the little walk we did last week which was 6 miles, yeah that one, anyway, walked to the garden and got the wheelbarrow to take the cement bag and a few other items needed, trowel and rubber mallet that sort of thing, went back for the cement mixer, now pushing this to the garden those 385 yds, was to say the least eventful, for those who know the wheels on a cement mixer are solid and have no "give" in them one bit so you feel every bump every stone, got this to the garden, went back for the stand, another 385 yds, thought of taking it at the same time as the mixer itself, good job I didn't it would have fallen off pretty soon, again walked this down to the garden. So there I was got everything I needed, the next thing I had to do was to get the mixer down off the top deck, which is one we built last year so I knew it was strong, it is however 3ft off the ground, there are step leading down, so you can see I was on my own and I am thinking how do I get the mixer down the garden, I had visions of the bloody thing falling off the edge with a pair of feet hanging out the drum, I decided to have a coffee and have a think, after deliberating I decided to go for the steps, five in all, I knew they were strong but its the angle a steepness of them.all by the way did I mention it was frosty and slippery, started to get the wheels near the edge, one step, two step three, oh hang on a minute, three step, oh made it.
Got the stand and built the mixer and was ready for mixing, the customer had left a extension lead out for me as they were both at work, the garden I guess is around 80ft long so had to join my lead onto it to reach the mixer, all sorted, by this time is was about 9.30. All was good in the world. Pushed the on switch on the mixer not a bean, checked the leads were fine, still no power, went to the small window through where the lead was out only to see the plug on the inside sill looking at me, they had forgot to plug it in.
After all this I had thoughts of me mixing up in a wheelbarrow by hand, which takes a time, great start, another coffee I thought, well what else could I do, then about 10.00 I heard someone in the house, shouted out and it was the mum of the customers, I said would you plug the lead in for me, said thank god you came here, she replied that she had to take their dog to the vets. All plugged in and sorted ready to go at last.
All in all an eventful morning, then I get a call about 3pm from home, Joanne my significant other said her dad had got a puncture and was having trouble changing the wheel got there , hes 77, so then I had to go to and help, got to lordswood he had no wheel brace, got mine and took the wheel to be fixed. Then finally got home. Tomorrow is another day!! Hopefully not like this one.
See you all soon!!

peter: Posted on 13 March 2013 22:47
Back to the paving tomorrow so an early night I think, the weather is going to be fine, not looking forward to wheeling the cement mixer down the 380 yds again, still once its there it can stay for a while.
Neil is on holidays at the moment so on my own, got plenty of time to do the job though.
Probably will run out of coffee, always do when I work alone. I will start at the easy end first and then leave any cuts until later.
Hope you all have a good day in what ever you are doing.
Laying York riven slabs, not Rutland this time, as one person seems to think there are two types of Rutland funny that.
Still going to look good when its done, only two slabs wide, but about 120 of them so a long path.
See you all soon!!

We had a very hard day yesterday, the job itself is fairly easy, but getting the materials to the garden is definitely not for the faint hearted. We had to get 120 slabs and 1 tonne of sharp sand in the plot. Well read this and weep for us, the materials were loaded on the pavement, nearest point, so with two wheelbarrows we had to go up a concrete slope of around 80 yds, it was steep, then we had a walk of about 300 yds to get into to the garden, the store the slabs on the deck we built last year, and the sand we tipped into the garden from the top of the raised deck, then walked back again, and again. We could only carry 4 slabs at a time, so that was 15 trips each, and I guess about 5 shovels of sand that was at least another 12 possibly more, so 27 times 380 yds which comes to 10260 yds which amounts to almost 6 miles, and the weather yesterday was terrible, did not stop raining, we both got soaked, aching muscles is not the word. All for £80 per day was it worth it. How many of you would do the same I wonder. The next job in this garden is three tonnes of ballast for concreting, no way sorry, a hired dumper is the way forward. The access to the garden cannot be got my van, truck or lorry so this is why we had to do it. I think we deserve a medal for perseverance. See you all soon!!

All going well at the moment, getting quotes done and work, small jobs at the moment which is good. Larger schemes will come later, working on a Crayford one which is around 5 weeks to complete, also waiting on the Sidcup scheme dates then we can on to finish it. Decking scheme in Minster to start soon, which has been altered a little but for the better after my suggestions have been accepted. Looking forward to creating this one soon. The past two days have been very warm compared to the temperatures we have been having, so it has allowed the work to carry on without much hassle, makes all the difference when the sun shines. Winter has been very good to us, we have done jobs and moved on. Thanks for reading See you all soon!!

Its been a little while since my last blog entry, so a lot to catch up, work has been fine, been working at strood lately, some decking handrails, some fencing in Gillingham and a railway sleeper job next week. Got an old friend back in the schemes, so all is looking good. The days have just flown by. A new laptop as the old one had completely gone wrong and was going to cost too much to repair, finally got the tablet to access the home hub after using wifi for a while so that's working fantastic now. Looking ahead, have got some quotes to do, one is for a front brick wall, this was from the fencing job, so good to get more schemes there. The new laptop is using windows 8, takes some getting use to, but its great, everything is in front of you, files, apps and it is very user friendly, like it a lot. Have got a minster job coming up, this one is a deck 2.3m high and metal railings instead of wooden handrails to give maximum view. Lots of bracing needed. Stairs leading up to the structure. This is going to look fabulous. Well that's about it for now. See you all soon!!

The work has been done, just a final tidy and sweep up tomoorow and onto to the next one, I read my stars the other day, its a thing I rarely do, but something told me to read them and boy were they on the button. Its read that old ways will soon be back and that the future is bright once again, yeah yeah I thought, but recent news coming to lite its right on the money. Today was a good day, loaded the van up with the tools not needed tomorrow, paid some bills to suppliers and got up to date with some paperwork. How was your day? see you all soon!!

peter: Posted on 16 February 2013 20:10
Been a funny old week, weather up and down, had two calls for quotes and had one job put off, so a funny week. Near completion of the work we are on at the moment. Bought a hot air gun for the paving, a dewaly one so hopefully will not let me down. Will start to take some of the tools home next week. After this one a little gap between jobs, so will be able to catch up on paperwork again. Got Crayford to look forward to next weekend, going to measure up and quote. See you soon!!

Today was to say the least no very nice, got some more of the slabs laid, under cover, but the snow, sleet and rain just did not stop, happy days. We have been using a winter mix chemicle in the morter so its fine and will set. The new gazebo has done its job once more. Just got a very small amount left which the weather go too much to continue, even under cover. Got the capping on the left hand side to do, this will the cuts and give an end/start of the flower bed. Hope tomorrow is a little dryer. See you all soon!!

Today was another hard day at the office, got 54 slabs laid, going to do the circle tomorrow. Hope to get a fair bit done but the weather might hold us up, have purchased a "pop up" gazebo as the other ones have now broken, so I am hoping we can "pop" it up tomorrow in case it does rain. A few cuts to do next week in the front, and have to build the small wall when I get near the area with the paving, makes the measuring better. See you all soon!!

All went well today, still strange without my old mucker, but going well. We are now ready for the paving to be laid and starting it tomorrow, Rutland slabs 45 x 45cm size with a small circle squared off. In two colours. Had to do a running repair on the wacker plate, soon got it fixed. Got the slabs being delivered tomorrow, first load so hopefully get a fair amount laid. The trail continues. See you all soon!!

Not a bad day, lifted the old paving, measured the area, dug the footings and laid the concrete, levelled the footings ready for the small wall. Only three bricks high, so not too taxing. Had a delivery of type one roadstone, ballast and cement, and emptied one large bag of type one over the area. The footings should be set enough tomorrow to build the wall. Ready for the paving to be delivered by Wednesday so should be good. The new chap worked hard and we got what we set out to do today at least. Once all of the roadstone is down we then compact it into place. We do a final firming and thats it ready. See you all soon!!

Nearly done at Maidstone, just go the slabs to lay on the steps which were done today, waiting for the brickwork to set overnight. Its a small space but the work has made it look better, the customer now has an area in which to sit. Quoting for a job in Chatham soon, some more paving. Now as my site states we are specialists in patios and timber decks, the definition of the word A person who concentrates primarily on a particular subject or activity; a person highly skilled in a specific and restricted field.A person highly trained in a particular branch of medicine. Well the first might be right for us, the only medicine we take is tea and coffee, but its a word thats banded around too often without thought. We do specialise in the two products, and its based upon that in a given year we do more of these two than any other task put together. Last year for instance we layed over 7500 slabs, and fixed to timber frames over 4000 deck boards, which resulted in many tonnes of sand and cement, and over 20,000 screws. The work we do as our cutomers have told us, is good value for money, and our friendly approach makes the whole scheme run as smooth as possible. We continue to do this on a regular basis, so it is with this in mind we do hope to hear from you very soon. See you all soon!!

Got the paving done today, working alone, just got some cuts to do tomorrow, looking good, using York slabs 45 x 45cm and stone in colour, nice ecomony slab, use this type if you want a plain no nonsence look to the patio. Rubbish has been collected by my rubbish firm, so should finish friday. Pointing, gate to fix, cuts for the paving and lay them into place, and brick steps to do. Small job but many items. See you all soon!!

Today went well, got the picket fence built, lifted the old paving, dug out the soil ready for the type one road stone which was spread over the area, bought the slabs round the back from the front, so a good day. All and Sundry coming tomorrow to take away the rubbish, and I will get on with laying the slabs. See you all soon!!

All went well today, the artificial lawn went down a treat, so much so we got another inquiry in the area. Looks great see the new picture on the website page.
The customer is very pleased with the outcome, made us very welcome and will be asking us back to do the rear garden as this was the front we had done.
This lawn was a pile height of 30mm, very realistic and soft to walk upon.
Will be the best one in the street, if you see the picture, the empty house up the road you can just make out the type of grass that was there, full of weeds, well this will not have those to get rid of.
See you all soon!!

First day back after the Christmas break, all went well, got the handrails and the two additional lights done, this is the lords wood job, additional mop stick handrails was asked for, and the two lights that were not available at the time have now been installed.
Looks good, unfortunately still a slight adjustment on the lights, just got an email from site, so I have asked the suppliers to come up with a solution for us.
The changing coloured ones are not changing the way they should. They have been installed correctly, in fact you cant really go wrong. Waiting for a response.
Still the handrails look great watch out for the pictures. Moving onto a small job in gillingham, this one is artificial grass to be laid.
See you all soon!!

A better day today, got the lights sorted only to find two of them are not working, so will have to go back as soon as they are delivered, will be after the Christmas break. One was wireless and the other was very dim, bit like me!!
Got the decking done, so tomorrow the steps, posts and rope handrail, hope it does not rain too much.
The garden is looking good now compared to what it was like, the Autumn project slide show will be up and running soon, once the photo CD is completed by Fiona Bruce-Stone, photographer who has been taking shots of the scheme as it progresses.
See you all soon!!

What a day, have spent hours on the decking lights, its the extension thats causing the problem with them, very stressful, tried three times to get the lead in the right place, will continue tomorrow, hope a better day, only have six to do.
Got the lower decking almost done so thats good. Hope a better day tomorrow, so stressed at the moment.
See you all soon!!

Got the top deck done today, just got to do some fine adjustments to the decking lights that we also put in, looking good.
Should start the lower one tomorrow sometime. Then all we have left are the steps and rope Handrails.
The we have to install a new side door for the garage.

What a day, wet and windy just what we needed, I dont think so, Gazebos where ok, just, got the brick work done and the copings. Got some of the deck boards fixed, and the weed membrane laid down.
We had the third visit from Fiona Bruce-Stone, photographer, Fiona very kindly brought us a hot drink and some mince pies a very nice thought. Made our day!!
The weather in the afternoon got so bad we had to call it a day, left around 3.30 so not too early, both of us got soaked. Still the garden is looking good.
Got home to some sad news of a lovely lady who had lost her fight, she left us in the early hours, she was once my mother in law, and is nan to my daughter Hayley, very sad bless her.
See you all soon!!

Well the garden is really looking good now, decking frame one is almost done, all the brick work is almost done and will be by the weekend, then its all steam ahead with the decking.
I am hoping the weather tomorrow does not put us behind, but with two trusty gazebos at the ready lets hope not, going to be a bit windy, so if you are in the medway area and you see a white 3m x 2m and a green 2.4 x 2.4m gazebo flying over head, look out for two people trying to hold them down.
See you all soon!! Literally!

Well it was a better start today, the vehicle was fine, cold day though, very bright and crisp.
Got the copings fixed, and the footings ready for the last wall. Started the timber frame for the top deck.
Apparently its going to get milder in Medway on Friday, up to 10 c, better get the deck chairs out. But it might rain, in fact it probably will.
Took the scenic route home again to charge the battery. Cant help thinking is it cheaper to get a new battery or use more fuel to charge the old one. Hmmmm!! a good question.
Gazebos at the ready.
See you all soon!!

We had a great day, when I saw the weather forecast, we both thought, that's it not much being done, but the weather in the end was OK, reasonably dry, so we got 90 per cent of the work we thought we would get done, a little rain stopped us for a while, but we did good, blowing trumpet loudly, got some more materials delivered on Monday, more bricks and blocks and some timber. So going good.
Did not have Fiona the photographer today as there was not enough for her to take, so made arrangements for her to come on Wednesday, which by then the wall we be done and some of the timber frame.
Meanwhile the customer has ordered another set of decking lights, making two altogether, so will look good when its done.
See you all soon!!

We are getting closer to the finishing line, the brickwork is going good and the area is starting to look more the finished scheme. Its a shame its going to rain tomorrow, so am hoping the weather people have got it wrong, else the gazebos will have to come out. In any case it will slow us up a little, just as we were catching up.
Going to order some more materials on Monday, which will start the beginning of the end.
Meanwhile all prey for dry weather in Medway tomorrow.
See you all soon!!

Been using the tablet I had got, all new to me this, ok with the laptop. I was going to get one at christmas time or even in the Jan 2013 sales, but it came on the shopping Channel and was such a good price it was too much of a bargain to past up. Been saving a fair time to get one so did not have quite enough so just had to put a bit to it. Today work wise was eventful, a lite dusting of snow this morning, all gone by about 10.30 so got some of the wall up, using a frostproofer in the mix, covered it up tonight, so it should sleep well. See you all soon!!

All went ok today, had the delivery early, Neil dug out the rest of the footings, and then we laid the concrete ready for tomorrow. Will start the main retaining wall tomorrow, and hope to get some of the lvelling done ready for the decking frame. So its taking shape. Got delivery of the Tablet I ordered from QVC, in record time as well, only ordered it Saturday, first thought looks good, as thery said it will never replace the laptop, but its got apps and over 300 book titles all ready loaded. It was a special price, loads of extras, a case and a pen for the screen. Got the wifi up and running. Yeah pleased so far, charging it up now. See you all soon!!

Today was heavy going, dug the footings out in the clay and flint soil of lordswood. Back breaking to say the least, thirsty work too. Still just got one more area to do and then concreting them in. Going to order some more screws ready for the two decks to be done. See you all soon!!

Today was good, got the walls in the front section all done, and along the side. Dug out the area for the main retaining wall ready for Monday, just the footings to be dug there.
Fiona Bruce-Stone the photographer came to take some more pictures, and very kindly brought us some mince pies for us to enjoy.
Getting a delivery of some more ballast on Monday, and quoted the customer for additional handrails, have quoted for rope handrails, but wanted a price for wooden. So we will see.
So all in all a good week, got plenty done and although the rain last week put us behind a little we are not too far behind we will catch up next week.
See you all soon!!

peter: Posted on 29 November 2012 17:42
We had a good day, building the walls, we will soon be in a position to start the levelling parts of the soil ready for the deck.
The larger retaining wall is yet to be done, but getting on well. The ground has dried out quite a lot, since the rain earlier in the week, clay and flint soil does take a time.
Fiona Bruce-Stone the photographer is coming to visit again tomorrow for an update on the work. Looking forward to that.
We had another delivery today and got 2 more tonnes of material into the garden, back ache now!!.
See you all soon!!

Today was much better, dry and cold, but we got some work done, the brick walls are starting to be built.
Got some more materials coming again tomorrow, 2 tonnes of building sand, wheelbarrow at the ready.
Got an enquiry for a Patio today so will be seeing that the weekend, as these dark nights are no good for measuring.
See you all soon!!

Getting another visit from the photographer this week, on Friday, should have some pictures of the brick walls, I know a brick wall is not the most striking of poses, but its part of the scheme tasks.
All we become clear once the photo slide show is up and running.
What have you been doing today.
See you all soon!!

I am going to open up a pottery shop, because the amount of clay we have shifted today I would be able to sell the goods for quite a while.
People who live in Lordswood will know what I mean, the soil there is clay and flint, very heavy going. The grab lorry must have had a good 13 tonnes, if not more, to pick up.
At least now the driveway is cleared.
Got the bricks and blocks coming tomorrow first thing so the walls can start to be built.
Red stock bricks and concrete blocks so that will keep us going. Must get back to the pottery.
See you all soon!!

Not very good weather today is it, going to make the job in Lordswood a bit sticky as the soil is clay and flint.
All the tools and my boots are going to get caked with, I go in weighing one amount and come out weighing another.
Must look at the Kent weather on facebook more often.
Going to order the bricks on Monday to get them delivered for Tuesday. We will be done with the digger and dumper by then.
Not sure where to get the decking from yet, I do need the wider sections on this one. Might give Jewson a call or Travis Perkins.
See you all soon!!
